'PSSR 2' is the sequel to the hit PS5 Pro comedy 'PSSR' and I love that for it

PSSR is funny because it looks and sounds a lot like "pisser". But it's also funny because it's kind of shit.

Well, it was kinda shit. Until now. Yes, you see PSSR (hahahahahah!) or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, if you want to be a dry arse about it, has had plenty of issues with shimmering of textures and other problems in the past, that meant it wasn't a cut and dry win for those seeking upscaled sweetness that looked the absolute "balls" as it were.

Anyway, PSSR 2 has been released on PS5 Pro - or an update that everyone is calling PSSR 2, I should say - has been released. It's actually just a toggle that upgrades the OG PSSR to a newer version, innit, and you can activate it in your Pro's screen settings menu once your console has the latest update.

So, now that it's with us - and folks on the PS5 Reddit forums have been very excited about this the past few weeks, let me tell you - what is it actually like?

Well, I've taken a very quick look at some of my installed games on PS5 Pro today, and here's a few that I can 100% say have sort of blown me away a bit with how much better they look.

God of War Ragnarok

"Barcelooooooooooonaaaaaaaa!"

I haven't finished Ragnarok, in fact I never got that far in it because I found it got really tedious in the middle section, and I find Kratos irritating after a while. And his son is a wee fucking drip.

But I do love it beyond these personal issues, especially its combat, and I know from pals that it picks up massively once I get a little further in. So I will finish it!

Booting up with this new tech toggle on, more to the point, the difference is massively noticeable. It looks really crisp now, and annoying foliage blurriness in particular seems sorted.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

"...such a beautiful horizon..."

Another game I was enjoying but then fell off the wagon with because it became unbearably Assassin's Creed-sy after a while.

Again the difference here is amongst the more noticeable of the games I've tried out since PSSR 2: 2 PSSR 4 U dropped in the wee hours of this morning, and I think fans of stabbing pricks will be happy.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor

Call me Uncle Fester one more time, Jedi scum...

Ok. Shit and damn. And then shit again. This game is probably the one you should try out first, as there's a huge difference.

I loaded into some problem areas - and this is a game that has some, even on Pro - and it's smooth as hell now...and super sharp-looking. I'm gonna have to play this again. Have I ever told you how much I love Star Wars, by the way? Because I don't, really. I think it's a right pile of shite tbh. But you could get arrested for saying that these days. Don't tell anyone.

Ghost of Yotei

Oh ancient moon, I've used your picture before. You're a running joke now, so laugh, por favor

The game I'm currently actually playing for fun in my own pitiful, middle-aged spare time (honestly, life is a right PSSR at my age), the jump in sharpness is very notable when rebooting with the upgraded PSSR (hahahahahaha!) enabled.

I love this game so far, I should note, it's way better than its predecessor. And you know, as something of a samurai myself, it's a game that speaks to me on a level that most normal gamers, like you, probably don't even hear.

Resident Evil 4

Yes, Requiem comes with PSSR 2 baked in, but banging RE4 on now provides another stunning showing for this new PISSER 2 tech. And this game already looked great, so imagine how fucking great it looks now. You prick.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Halt, for I have farted

I love DD2 so much that I put my big playthrough on ice because it was a little messy in places. This update has defo made it look a lot sharper, although of all the games listed here that I tried out, this was probably the least impressive or overall noticeable touch-up.

That sounded a bit like a criticism. But it wasn't. NOBODY CRITICISES DRAGON'S DOGMA.

Stellar Blade

BIG SHINY ARSES!

Not like that. It's not like that, you fucking pervert.

This game looked amazing anyway, and now it's even crisper and cleaner in motion, and in stills or photo mode, to the extent you can 100% see the difference as soon as you load up and zoom right into some bad guy's arse cheeks to see all the details. PHWOAR!!!

Anyway, that's all I've tried with the new PSSR toggle switched on. Also, it's St Patrick's Day, so have a good one. I'm gonna go have a can of alcohol free Guinness and then maybe get the auld Christie Moore on.

Namaste, and Slán go fóill 🙏 ☘️
